Chameleons are stunning but demanding reptiles. This complete care guide covers the critical lighting, humidity, and diet requirements that all chameleon owners must master.
Chameleons are among the most spectacular reptiles in the world but they are NOT beginner animals. They have very specific requirements that, if not met precisely, will result in a sick or dead animal.
Enclosure Chameleons must be kept in screen enclosures â never glass. Minimum 2x2x4 feet for adults. They need excellent ventilation.
Lighting This is the most critical factor. Chameleons need high-quality UVB lighting (T5 HO 5.0 or 6%). Replace bulbs every 6 months even if they still produce visible light â UVB output degrades before the visible light fails.
Hydration Chameleons do not drink from standing water. They drink droplets from leaves. You must drip water or use an automatic misting system for a minimum of 2x daily misting sessions.
Humidity Veiled Chameleons: 50-70%. Panther Chameleons: 70-90%.
Diet Chameleons eat live insects â crickets, dubia roaches, hornworms, silkworms. All insects must be gut-loaded and dusted with calcium and multivitamin supplements.
